EMIL CARDINAUX (1877-1936) [SPRING IN SWITZERLAND.] 1921.
49 3/4x35 3/4 inches, 126 1/2x90 3/4 cm. [Wolfsberg, Zurich.]

Cardinaux is most sought after for his winter scenes of Switzerland, but his soft, watercolor style was equally effective in presenting the beauties of other Swiss seasons to travelers. This is one of two posters he was commissioned to design by the Swiss Office of Tourism "to draw the attention of the traveling public to the resorts located on the shores of the Swiss lakes" (Paradis p. 12). This is the version before text. Paradis p. 8 (var), Cardinaux 77 (var), Touristik 7 (var).
